The IES Sierra Nevada is a small secondary school situated in Fiñana (Almería). Students of the area can do their Compulsory Secondary School (12-16) as well two years of “Bachillerato” to prepare themselves to go to University. Intermediate Vocational Training Studies in ICTs and Forestry are also available.
Fiñana is a small village of 2070 inhabitants situated 71kms from Almería and 100 from Granada. Its economy is essentially based on agriculture devoted to the growth of cereal, olive and fruit trees. It is surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of the Sierra Nevada and the Los Filabres mountains.
Walking around the village, you can appreciate the two most important cultures, Muslim and Christian. Still visible today are the remains of the Muslim Castle, the Muslim water tank and La Anunciación Church. Both cultures have also been fused in typical and traditional dishes such as “migas”, “gachas” and “Zaramandoña”.
